Tital 1.7 - the Pioneer among High Index Lenses

The high index lens Tital 1.7 has been an integral part of the Carl Zeiss product range since as long ago as 1974. The high refractive index of 1.706 is achieved by adding titanium oxide to the glass melt. Although this negligibly increases the density of the lens material, Tital 1.7 is no heavier than a Punktal 1.5 lens with the same dioptric power due to a reduction in volume. Coatings

The higher refractive index of Tital 1.7 also markedly reduces the edge thickness of minus lenses. A Tital 1.7 lens with -4.00 D is around 20% thinner than a Punktal 1.5 lens – a considerable cosmetic benefit.
