The new O-INSPECT multi-sensor measuring machine from Carl Zeiss increases efficiency during the inspection of small and complex parts. It is used primarily for the quality assurance and initial sampling of small, complex parts in the plastics, medical and automobile industries and precision mechanics. Operators can alternate between optical and contact measurements without interrupting the CNC measuring run.
O-INSPECT unites high flexibility and highly reproducible results in one measuring run and one setting. This is made possible by the in-house development of proven ZEISS sensors and CAD-based CALYPSO® measuring software: a zoom lens from Carl Zeiss is used in addition to the VAST® XXT sensor for contact scanning. CALYPSO enables extensive size, form and position measurements with systematic user guidance. It is used to calibrate, program, measure and analyze. The measuring system switches directly between a camera and CAD view at the push of a button. The CAD structures can be superimposed onto the camera image. Deviations from the nominal data are immediately visible in the CAD display.

Multi-sensor system improves measuring productivity
The heart of O-INSPECT is the sensor unit consisting of ZEISS sensors: the proven VAST XXT scanning sensor is used for contact measure- ments. The optical sensor is a unit from a CCD camera and a precise, very flexible 12x zoom lens. With this unit, Carl Zeiss has integrated two of the best sensor technologies available.

O-INSPECT is configured to allow the sensors to be automatically switched at any time during CNC operation.

The optical sensor is used not only with small features, soft or sensitive materials, but also when part throughput is important. A sophisticated, multi-color illumination system with 8 different high-power LED configurations, multi-sector ring light, coaxial light, and transmitted and external light create the good contrast needed for optical measuring.

Large bore holes and contours are scanned with VAST XXT or inspected using single-point measuring. Various probing systems further enhance the system’s flexibility. Whether the probing systems are changed automatically or manually, recalibration is no longer necessary. This also accelerates the measuring runs. Without additional measurements, deviations from the nominal data are visible in real time via the camera image shown in the CAD display of CALYPSO measuring software. Even difficult measuring tasks can be completed with the direct assistance of stencils in the camera image. Carl Zeiss is the first manufacturer of measuring machines and software to integrate this feature in this form in CALYPSO.

Change, activate, measure
O-INSPECT meets the demands for high part throughput, high measuring accuracy, and fast and easy operation. This requires an integrated damping system, highly dynamic drives, automatic drive monitoring and CAA (Computer Aided Accuracy). The fixed bridge and the moving measuring table permit three-sided access and easy connection to a pallet feed system during loading and stylus change. O-INSPECT is quickly operational and easy to use.
