| Oberkochen, 04.11.2003. Today, Sony will present its new DSC-T1 digital camera. This will be the first Sony digital camera with a Vario-Tessar® lens from Carl Zeiss. The Vario-Tessar® lens design is optimized to meet the requirements of very compact, user-friendly cameras with fast action autofocus. In the new DSC T1 digital camera from Sony, this lens design has now been consistently improved thanks to an innovative beam delivery system. A prism deflects the beam path inside the camera housing by 90°. The movement of the lens element group permitting the 3x zoom range therefore takes place inside the camera. Lens tubes no longer project from the housing, and frequent changes of the lens length during zooming are a thing of the past. In other words, the famous "Eagle Eye of the Camera" is being used in a digital camera for the first time. The 3x zoom lens offers the most frequently used focal range between 38 and 114 mm (converted to the 35 mm format) and is a perfect balance between different, sometimes contradictory requirements such as initial aperture (1: 3.5), compactness, zoom factor and costs. Of the total of 11 optical components (10 lens elements, one prism), 5 lens elements are aspheric. This permits an extremely compact lens design which in turn results in the required slim camera body. Furthermore, aspheric lenses enhance the optical performance. This leads to brilliant, sharply defined photos with high contrast and well controlled distortion. The Vario-Tessar® lens is a modern successor to the Zeiss Tessar® launched more than 100 years ago, i.e. in 1902, which became known throughout the world as the "Eagle Eye of Your Camera". Many photography experts consider the Zeiss Tessar® lens to be the most successful camera lens of all times. DSC-T1: High-performance lifestyle camera Its dimensions of 91 x 60 x 21 mm (WxHxD) make the Sony DSC-T1 ideal for practically any pocket and suitable for all occasions. Under the motto "Shoot & Share“, the 6.35 cm hybrid LCD invites you to show your photos on the camera right after they have been taken. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3x optical zoom (digital 6x zoom) and 5 megapixel CCD ensure that the photos will also be admired by camera enthusiasts. Many software functions convert the camera into a creative, powerful package. Eight subject program modes motivate you to experiment and permit photos to be taken even in difficult conditions, such as glaring light, twilight, darkness , back lighting, etc. Photos are stored on the Duo or PRO Duo memory stick. The image series function with up to 3 images per second is a further major benefit of this new highlight in digital photography.
