The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has yet again honored a product with optics from Carl Zeiss as one of the year's best. In the "Best Mobile Imaging Device in Europe" category, journalists selected the N82 compact multimedia cell phone from Finnish manufacturer Nokia as the winner for 2008. The integrated camera on the N82 is equipped with a Tessar lens from Carl Zeiss.
The Nokia N82 is a multimedia computer in the form of a cell phone and features universal communication functions. Thanks to its compact, lightweight design and its low height of only 17 mm, it can be easily taken anywhere. The TIPA jury was impressed by the excellent camera features. The Nokia N82 enables digital photos and videos in outstanding quality. A powerful xenon flash permits brilliant photos even under poor light conditions.
"We are pleased to have had the opportunity to once again combine the know-how of Carl Zeiss with Nokia technology. For us, this award verifies that both partners have succeeded in this endeavor," stated Dr. Winfried Scherle, Vice President and General Manager of the Camera Lens Division at Carl Zeiss AG.
The Nokia N82 multimedia computer is equipped with a special lens which corresponds to the classic four-element Tessar. The special features of this lens include its high definition, low chromatic aberration and special speed – despite its small size. The optical parameters of the N82 are f2.9/5.5 mm, which corresponds to the universal focal length of the 35 mm format. The optical system reproduces the viewed scene with maximum precision on a 2952 x 1994 pixel microsensor. Furthermore, the Nokia N82 supports geo tagging. With this technique, photos are tagged with geographic information about the location. This allows users to save their photos not only according to the date, but also according to the relevant place they were taken, and to share them with others in the Internet.
TIPA was founded in 1991 as an independent, non-profit association of European photo and imaging magazines. TIPA currently comprises 31 member magazines from 12 countries.
