| JENA/Germany, 16.09.2003. Manufacturers, including the companies Loewe and Carl Zeiss, are placing high expectations in digital TV on large flat screen monitors. The new Loewe Articos 55 HD rear projection TV set with a 140 cm screen diagonal, the optics of which are developed and produced at Carl Zeiss in Jena, was one of the many eye-catching innovations at this year's IFA (International Consumer Electronics Show) in Berlin. Carl Zeiss will also show this TV set during the 8th Company Meeting of the Association of the Economy of Thuringia in Weimar on September 16, 2003. The Articos 55 HD DLP (Digital Light Processing) rear projection monitor is the first instrument of a new generation of digital, high-resolution flat and lightweight TV instruments with a large screen diagonal from the company Loewe. Both consumers and dealers are very interested in an extremely flat TV set. The new TV set is scheduled to be launched before Christmas and will be markedly less expensive than a plasma TV monitor of a comparable size. Production of the digital optical system, the so-called Optical Engine, will soon be started at Carl Zeiss in Jena. With the new TV sets, the manufacturers want to provide cinema quality in the home. In addition to the already existing complex sound solutions, the new optical technologies now also enable cinema standard of the images. In terms of screen diagonal and image features such as contrast and color saturation, these new TV sets feature an attractive cost/benefit ratio.
