| JENA/Germany, 16.12.2002. After the R&D 100 Research Award granted by the R&D Magazine and the Innovation Award of the German federal state of Thuringia, the LSM 510 META Laser Scanning Microscope from Carl Zeiss has now won a third award within a very short time. The readers of the US American magazine "The Scientist" were asked to choose the best instrument of 2002 in a Web-based poll. The LSM 510 META is the winner of the "The Scientist Readers Choice Awards" in the Best Instrument Over $100,000 category. Ever since the instrument was launched on the market about a year ago, the demand for it has been constantly increasing. The major reason for this success is the combination of a new type of detector with computer-supported image analysis techniques. This innovative combination permits several components of biological specimens to be visualized simultaneously and identified reliably. The latest award shows that scientists in biological and medical research rate this innovation very positively indeed. The award was presented during the Meeting of the American Society of Cell Biology in San Francisco on December 16, 2002. ![]() Photo: Multiaward winner LSM 510 META Laser Scanning Microscope.
