| Jena, 11.10.2005. The Planetariums business unit at Carl Zeiss invited customers and interested parties from all over the world to Jena from October 9 to 11 to witness an unusual market launch. The business unit is simultaneously presenting an amazing six new products in the field of opto-mechanical and digital planetarium technology. 90 participants from around the globe accepted the invitation for the first two days of the event. 70 guests from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are expected on October 11. The agenda includes instrument demonstrations, lectures, planetarium shows and discussions with specialists from Carl Zeiss and cooperation partners. The focus is on new product families for dome projections. Opto-mechanical planetarium projectors The SKYMASTER ZKP 4 projector for domes with diameters from 6 to 14 meters is new to the family of opto-mechanical planetarium projectors, with ZEISS glass fiber projection being used for the first time in an instrument of this category. As with the UNIVERSARIUM and STARMASTER planetarium projectors for large dome diameters, stars can now also be projected on smaller domes with outstanding brilliance and realism. A further new feature of SKYMASTER is the control system which is now based on the same state-of-the-art computer technology used in the large projectors. This means that the last gear drives in the ZEISS planetarium technology have now been replaced by computers. Digital planetarium projectors Carl Zeiss now presents a complete line of digital dome projection systems covering dome diameters from 6 to 30 meters: ADLIP HD, 4DOME, SPACEGATE and definiti® TWIN. For the first time, Carl Zeiss now offers its own image generator – PowerDome – to create all-dome images. The latest version of the well-known ADLIP HD laser all-dome projection system delivers high-definition quality projections for dome diameters up to 23 meters. Images projected with ADLIP HD remain unsurpassed in brilliance, color depth and contrast. 4DOME is a further projection system now also available for large domes. For this projection system, digital large-image projectors from SONY have been equipped with dedicated Carl Zeiss optics. The outstanding brightness and resolution of the projector make the system suitable for dome diameters up to 30 meters. The SPACEGATE system comprises up to five projectors to generate all-dome images and videos on smaller domes with diameters of 6 to 14 m. In terms of value for money, the combination of SPACEGATE with SKYMASTER ZKP 4 is the ideal solution for relatively small planetarium installations that wish to present not only a brilliant starlit sky, but also images and videos from other subject areas – all in superb quality. The definiti® TWIN system has been primarily designed for mobile domes. Like SPACEGATE, definiti® TWIN uses the digital projection know-how of Carl Zeiss. The system is equipped with an integrated image generator that provides the same capabilities as a separate image generator such as PowerDome. PowerDome, the first image generator for all-dome images to be offered by Carl Zeiss, features an open software architecture and is therefore able to control not only the ZEISS projection systems, but also dome systems from other manufacturers. It also permits control of different audio systems. As a result, the Planetariums business unit is now in a position to offer complete, digital dome projection systems and respond even more flexibly to customers’ needs and wishes. With its complete range of opto-mechanical and digital projection technology for dome diameters of 6 to 30 meters, Carl Zeiss responds to its customers’ demand for projection systems for all dome sizes and a versatile use of planetarium installations as multi-media centers - not only for astronomical education and information, but also for entertainment shows under the dome. Carl Zeiss is the only manufacturer on the world market to offer the complete spectrum of opto-mechanical and digital planetarium technology. ![]() SPACEGATE, digital all-dome projection for small and medium-sized domes.
