JENA/Germany, 10.09.2003. At the Brau 2003 exhibition in Nuremberg, Carl Zeiss is presenting two new solutions which will make the use of the successful MCS 500 and CORONA diode array spectrometer series even more attractive for the brewing and beverage industries, and without which some applications would not be possible at all: a rotary plate (turnstep) for the automation of spectroscopic laboratory measurements and a measuring head for precise, contact-free measurement even with an uneven mound height of the sample material.

The turnstep on the CORONA spectrometer now permits large quantities of samples to be measured in the laboratory within a short period of time, leading to a reduction of sampling errors. This means that quality-critical parameters of the constituents used for beverages and other foodstuffs can now be measured with higher accuracy – an essential requirement for ensuring constant quality of the end product. The turnstep function is fully supported by the CORONA software. This permits automatic sample measurement at different speeds and with automatic starting and stopping of the measuring process. The turnstep can be directly mounted on top of or under the CORONA unit and is also suitable for use with the MCS 500 multi-channel spectrometer.

ARMOR is the name of the new automatic reference measuring head for contact-free in-line measurement on conveyor belts or manufacturing lines. It features an automatic reference system which for the first time permits precise measurement even if there are large distances between the measuring head and the sample material. This allows measurements to be performed in areas where an even mound height of the sample material cannot be ensured. The spectrometer runs an automatic self-test to avoid measuring errors. The rugged measuring head in a high-grade steel enclosure is suitable for use with the MCS 500.
