Pushing the limits of light microscopy

The department of Biotechnology and Biophysics in Würzburg together with ZEISS, are proud to host a workshop about new technologies in microscopy.
Life cell and life tissue fluorescence imaging became a valuable tool in modern research applications in the last decade. Many applications require dedicated solutions and technologies to guarantee optimal and reliable results. Furthermore, image analysis provides the necessary tools to extract quantitative data even from complex and large data sets. In this workshop we will introduce theoretical background information as well as extensive hands-on sessions to better understand and use different systems and software solutions. See the technologies in action and learn how your work can benefit from.

  • Learn how Airyscan technology is applied in gentle imaging
  • We will show you the optimal confocal setup for live cell imaging
  • See the performance increase in resolution with LSM plus
  • Experience up to 90nm resolution with Airyscan Joint Deconvolution (jDCV)
  • See the benefits of Connected Microscopy workflows to keep image data in context

Station 2 | ZEISS Elyra 7

  • Learn how superresolution structured illumination microscopy will improve resolution down to 60nm
  • We will introduce and demonstrate different acquisition modalities of Elyra 7 for gentle and fast live cell imaging
  • See how superresolution structured illumination can by applied in high speed up to 255 frames per second

Station 3 | ZEISS Lattice Lightsheet 7

  • Learn how the use of Lattice Lightsheet technology enables imaging with subcellular resolution
  • See the use of standard cell culture dishes with glass bottoms on the Lattice Lightsheet 7
  • We will demonstrate the easy and semi-automatic calibration of the instrument in use
  • You will see how fluorescence imaging of a time series image is performed with low photobleaching and phototoxic effects

  • We will introduce and train the basics of post processing and image analysis for fluorescence image data sets
  • Discover how image analysis can be automized and applied on a series of data sets
